Toyota wins zoning approval for truck scale

Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing has received approval from the city to rezone five acres so it can install a truck scale on the property this fall.

Columbus City Council members Tuesday unanimously approved a request to rezone the property at the northwest corner of Barker and Inwood drives from agricultural to heavy industrial.

Council members also gave their initial approval to a rezoning request from the Bartholomew County Commissioners to rezone 1.72 acres from heavy industrial to light industrial at 785 S. Marr Road.

The county plans to move its local Purdue Extension office into a building on the Marr Road property this fall. Council members will consider a final reading of the ordinance tied to the rezoning request from the county during its Sept. 19 meeting at Columbus City Hall.
