DECATUR, Ill. — Funeral services have been planned for a Decatur sailor whose remains were recovered from the USS John S. McCain.

Twenty-three-year-old Logan Stephen Palmer went missing after the McCain and an oil tanker collided near Singapore last month. He was one of 10 sailors whose remains were recovered.

Palmer’s body was returned to central Illinois on Friday. Crowds, including local fire departments, law enforcement and residents, gathered to pay respects.

The (Decatur) Herald & Review reports a visitation has been scheduled for Sunday at Life Foursquare Church in Decatur. The funeral is Monday.

Palmer was a 2012 Sangamon Valley High School graduate, an Eagle Scout and active church member.

Family members say he was committed to making the Navy a career.
