SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Police have released the name of the man who died after he was found shot in Springfield last week.

Prosecutors say 29-year-old Rhakishon Pedraza, of Springfield, died at Baystate Medical Center after the shooting around 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Police were alerted to the shooting by the city’s automated gunfire detection system. Officers performed first aid on Pedraza at the scene before he was transported to the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been announced.

The death was the city’s 12th homicide of the year.
