NEW YORK — Police say a 25-year-old motorcyclist has died in a crash on a New York City highway where a car involved in the accident caught fire.

The motorcyclist was driving on the Grand Central Parkway in Queens Sunday morning when he collided with a guardrail. According to police, he was ejected while his bike kept going and lodged under an SUV that showered sparks on the sedan behind it.

The sedan caught fire because of the sparks and debris.

NYPD officials say the biker was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medics. The SUV driver was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
