HOUSTON — Three people killed in a Houston area fire over the weekend have been identified as a 79-year-old man, his 83-year-old wife and their 61-year-old son.

Monya Churchill tells the Houston Chronicle her parents, Robert and Frances Sommerford, had been caring for their disabled son, Larry Phillips.

Firefighters were able to get the three people out of the burning home but all died in an ambulance.

Fire crews had to douse surrounding homes to save the neighborhood in western Harris County.

Cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
