MILPITAS, Calif. — Authorities in Northern California say a 40-year-old female jail inmate died at a hospital where she was taken after complaining of a headache.

The Mercury News reports (http://bayareane.ws/2wUGwp1) the unidentified inmate died Sunday at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office says the woman was taken from the Elmwood Correctional Facility to the medical center Friday night after saying she had a headache and felt as if she was going to faint.

It says the woman, who had been in custody since Nov. 22, 2016, showed no signs of physical trauma.

The Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation into the death and notified the Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office and District Attorney’s Office
