SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff says a deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave while a criminal and internal investigation is conducted into his actions during an arrest.

Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said in a news release that Spokane Valley Deputy Samuel Turner was placed on leave Tuesday afternoon.

The sheriff says the Spokane Police Department has been asked to investigate “any potential assault or other criminal misconduct during an arrest.”

The sheriff says the investigation stems from a supervisor’s review of a recent call and not from a citizen complaint.
