LEVITTOWN, N.Y. — Police are investigating an assault at a home on Long Island that left an elderly woman dead and her 24-year-old grandson in serious condition.

Nassau County police say officers found the victims while responding to a 911 call of an assault at the Levittown home on North Newbridge Road just before 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The 83-year-old woman had multiple lacerations to her body and was pronounced dead at the scene. The grandson was treated for cuts to both arms and was hospitalized in serious condition.

Police say a dispute involving the grandson may have preceded the attack by someone using “a large cutting instrument.”

Police say two “persons of interest” were being questioned.

No other information was provided by police.
