WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. — A former Windsor, Vermont, police officer has been acquitted of charges related to a 2014 shooting during a drug sting.
After deliberating for nearly six hours, the jury on Wednesday found 30-year-old Ryan Palmer not guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and reckless endangerment.
Palmer was part of an undercover operation when he shot the driver of a car twice in the arm. Palmer and three other officers were trying at the time to arrest the driver’s then-girlfriend on active warrants.
Palmer said in court that he shot at the moving car to protect himself.
WCAX-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2h5b8u2 ) that driver sped away but he and his passengers were taken into custody in Claremont, New Hampshire.
