ANGOLA, La. — An official at a maximum-security prison in Louisiana says an inmate serving time for murder was captured during an attempted escape.

The Advocate reports guards found inmate Emmanuel Scott on the roof of a building at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. Assistant warden Gary Young said guards launched a search Thursday night after a headcount of the prisoners came up short.

Young said the inmate “never was outside of his secured area” and the prison’s security protocols resulted in a quick capture.

Scott has been imprisoned at Angola since 2009 after he was convicted of second-degree murder in Caddo Parish. Young said he will be charged with attempted escape.
