BEND, Ore. — Oregon State University-Cascades has received a $1 million donation from the founder of a Bend-based biotechnology company, which will help build the campus’ second academic building.

The Bend Bulletin reported (http://bit.ly/2x0cVuh ) Thursday that university now has raised $8.9 million of its $10 million goal with the gift from Grace-Bio Labs President Charles McGrath.

OSU-Cascades Vice President Becky Johnson says the donation brings the campus closer to its goal of having 3,000 to 5,000 students by 2025.

The planned building will have research labs, which Johnson said will help recruit professors and students. The building will also allow the campus to offer additional degrees, including a new arts, media and tech path.

McGrath was not available for comment Thursday.
