MONTPELIER, Vt. — Vermont officials say they will allocate $3.55 million annually to help pay for calendar years that add an extra week of Medicaid benefits and payroll for state employees.
The Times Argus reports (http://bit.ly/2xEALwj ) Finance and Management Commissioner Adam Greshin announced Thursday the next occurrence would be in 2022, costing the state a total of $23.2 million.
The calendar year normally has 26 payroll weeks for employees, but an extra week means the state would pay an additional $11.8 million. It also means another $11.4 million is required for Medicaid benefits.
Both costs were calculated using growth estimates from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Greshin says the state plans to cover costs entirely with money from the General Fund.
