BLACK CANYON CITY, Ariz. — The Latest on a brush fire affecting traffic on Interstate 17 (all times local):

4:20 p.m.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says a brushfire-caused traffic backup on Interstate 17 has grown to 10 miles.

The backup is in the median of I-17 near the Sunset Point Rest Area north of Black Canyon, which is 45 miles (72 kilometers) north of Phoenix.

I-17 is the main route between Phoenix and Flagstaff.

The department advises drivers to consider taking an alternative route, such as State Route 260 through Camp Verde to State Route 87 through Payson.

Authorities say a brush fire burning in the median of Interstate 17 near Sunset Point Rest Area north of Black Canyon City is causing serious delays for southbound traffic late Saturday afternoon.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says there’s a seven-mile (11-kilometer) backup from Bumble Bee Road to Badger Springs Road.

I-17 is the main route between Phoenix and Flagstaff.

The department advises drivers to consider taking an alternative route, such as State Route 260 through Camp Verde to State Route 87 through Payson.
