LOS ANGELES — A bankruptcy judge has approved the sale of assets owned by the organizers of the Titans of Mavericks big wave surf contest in Northern California.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/2xbF6WG ) U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Deborah Saltzman ruled Friday that Cartel Management, Inc., which owns Titans of Mavericks LLC, can sell Titans assets to the World Surf League for $525,000.

The decision will allow the WSL to add Maverick’s to its Big Wave Tour calendar, possibly as soon as this winter, once it acquires the necessary permits.

The contest is held annually in 25-foot-plus waves at the at the Maverick’s break near Pillar Point in Half Moon Bay. The contest window runs from Nov. 1 through March 31.

The WSL produces some of the world’s best-known surf contests.
