Columbus police officer injured in scuffle at restaurant

A Columbus police officer was injured during a scuffle with an intoxicated man at a local restaurant.

Columbus police were sent to the business, in the 1400 block of North National Road, at 12:45 p.m. Saturday about an unresponsive man seated at a booth and a small child who was unsupervised in the business, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When officers arrived, they found Zacheriah A. Tillison, 33, Hope, passed out inside the restaurant, Harris said. When officers attempted to administer naloxone, an opiate antidote, to Tillison, he became combative and began struggling with officers, Harris said. During the scuffle, one of the officers sustained a knee injury, Harris said.

Tillison was arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, public intoxication and child neglect, and was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital to be medically cleared before being taken to the Bartholomew County Jail.
