COLUMBUS, Ga. — The trial of a Georgia man facing the death penalty in the 2014 slayings of his girlfriend and infant son could be set for January 2018.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that Judge William Rumer suggested Tuesday during discussions with the defense and prosecution that Brandon David Conner’s trial could be scheduled for Jan. 22 or Jan. 29, 2018.

Conner is charged with murder, aggravated battery, first-degree arson and using a knife to commit a crime. The charges stem from the discovery of the bodies of 32-year-old Rosella “Mandy” Mitchell and 6-month-old Dylan Ethan Conner in August 2014, following a house fire. An autopsy revealed Mitchell was stabbed multiple times.

Conner’s defense attorneys had argued that evidence seized by police was inadmissible, but Rumer has denied the challenging motions.
