EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Evansville Courier & Press Editor Tim Ethridge has announced his retirement from his hometown newspaper that he’s led since 2012.
Ethridge announced his decision Tuesday, saying the step wasn’t easy because he’s been in newsrooms since he was a teenager. He grew up in the Ohio River city and had been sports editor of the Courier & Press since 2000 when he was picked for the top newsroom position.
He first became a sportswriter in Evansville in 1979 and remained there until going to the Indianapolis News and Indianapolis Star in 1998.
Ethridge oversaw the Courier & Press through two ownership changes, from E.W. Scripps to Journal Media Group, and later to Gannett.
Managing Editor Ryan Reynolds will lead the newsroom until Ethridge’s successor is picked.
