PHOENIX — Phoenix police say an officer wounded in a shootout with a suspect after a pursuit is out of the hospital while the wounded suspect remains hospitalized recovering from his injuries

Identities weren’t released but Sgt. Mercedes Fortune says officers initially tried to stop the suspect Wednesday evening for an outstanding felony warrant while the suspect was stopped at a fast-food restaurant.

Fortune says the suspect fired at officers during the initial stop attempt and then drove off. Police followed him across the city with help from a police helicopter.

Police used tire-deflating devices to stop him about 10 miles (16 kilometers) away, and Fortune says the suspect again fired at officers, who returned fire, resulting in the suspect and one officer being wounded.

No identities were released.
