Brian’s picks – September 21

1) Late graphic artist Charley Harper’s creations feature a clean, modern look and a sprinkling of whimsy that makes me smile. Were it not for the current exhibit at Gallery 506 inside the Columbus Area Visitors Center, 506 Fifth Street, I would have remained clueless about the Cincinnati native’s work — done in an age before the aid of modern technology. The free display features vintage Harper prints, including serigraphs, lithographs and rare collectibles. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Information: 812-378-2622 or columbus.in.us.

2) Cabaret at The Commons continues to bring New York City glamour to the small-town Midwest at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 28. Singer/actor Santino Fontana earned a 2013 Tony Award-nomination for his Broadway performance of  Prince Topher in “Cinderella,” starred in the TV role of the self-loathing barman Greg in the CW’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and has been featured in movies “Frozen” (as Prince Hans), “Sisters” (Mr. Geernt, alongside Tina Fey and Amy Poehler) and others. Tickets are $20, $35 and $55, available at 812-376-2638 or thecip.org.
