NEWINGTON, Conn. — A woman has been found dead and a man hospitalized following a standoff with police in a suburb of Hartford.

Newington police said they are treating the Thursday morning incident as a homicide and that the man is considered a suspect. They didn’t immediately release the names of the man and woman but said they were married.

Police say the man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Hartford Courant reports police from area communities, including a heavily armed SWAT team, responded to the incident. They used a loud speaker to order the man out of the home. They also told residents to “shelter in place” in their basements as a precaution at around 9:15 a.m.

The incident was resolved by about 12:30 p.m.
