Calgon Carbon Corp., up $8.20 to $21.40

The water and air filtration systems company agreed to be bought by Kuraray of Japan.

Anadarko Petroleum Corp., up $3.68 to $48.49

The oil company said it plans to buy back $2.5 billion in stock.

Career Education Corp., down 3 cents to $9.89

The for-profit education company said its chief financial officer is leaving.

AngloGold Ashanti Ltd., down 13 cents to $9.19

The prices of gold and silver fell sharply Thursday after the Federal Reserve didn’t change its plans to raise interest rates.
