Trojans top Bull Dogs

No. 21-ranked Columbus North played its third consecutive ranked opponent Wednesday and took its third straight loss, a 5-0 setback to No. 25 Center Grove.

Kevin Lin fell to Trey Thixton 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Joey Zhao lost to Nic Ballesteros 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Akshaya Sabapathy fell to JT Embrey 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles for the Bull Dogs (11-3).

North’s Isaac Jackson and Ben Mathew lost to Eric Smith and Mitch Runkle 6-7 (3), 7-6 (7), (10-3) at No. 1 doubles. Chris Ruble and Adam Saad fell to Mason Runkle and Grant Herron 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

The Bull Dogs will host No. 14 Bloomington North today to decide the Conference Indiana champion.

Stars stop Olympians

Bedford North Lawrence won all five matches in straight sets to hand Columbus East a 5-0 loss in the consolation round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament.

Jackson Stevens fell to Ian Dillman 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Luke Miller lost to Logan Bland 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Jalen Pleak lost to Jesse Hernandez 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (2-14).

East’s Nathan Hatchett and Pranav Kumar lost to Corbin Bushey and Isaac Titche 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Bryce Buening and Caige Comstock fell to Chris Kidd and Jaydon Haworth 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

The Olympians will play at Madison in Friday’s seventh-place match.

Devils blank Panthers

NORTH VERNON — No. 13 Jeffersonville dropped only nine games in the five matches in a 5-0 win at Jennings County in the semifinals of the HHC Tournament.

Weston Miller fell to Keith Asplund at No. 1 singles, and Thomas Schuler lost to Jerid Inman at No. 2 singles, both by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Wyatt St. John fell to Blake Winchell 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Jennings’ Justin Gasper and Kent Biehle lost to Trey Bottorff and Colby Kayrouz 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Cody St. John and Briar Davis fell to Adam Crawford and Matthew Monroe 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

The Panthers (6-7) will play at New Albany in Friday’s third-place match, while Jeffersonville will play at No. 12 Floyd Central for the title.

Jets fall to Pirates

GREENSBURG — Hauser had its 10-match winning streak snapped with a 4-1 loss at Greensburg.

Jacob Rudd and Ethan Wallace beat Tucker Bailey and Sam Bower 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles for the Jets (10-2).

Sam Meek fell to Kyle Sellers 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Justin Compton lost to Trevor Foster 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Sean Miller fell to Brett Stringer 7-6 (3), 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Alex Gross and Jacob Johnson lost to Logan Smith and Ben Duerstock 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Artesians edge Eagles

NASHVILLE — Martinsville built a 2-0 lead and held on for a 2-1 win at Class A No. 14 Brown County.

Landon Cambridge scored off an assist from Logan Fittz in the 71st minute for the Eagles (9-3-1).

The Artesians outshot Brown County 20-9, putting nine shots on goal to four for the Eagles. Chris Ratzburg recorded seven saves.

Pioneers sweep Cougars

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran ran into one of the state’s top Class 3A teams and fell to Providence 25-10, 25-8, 25-12.

Hannah Sabotin led the Cougars (10-10) with five kills. Chloe Criswell added four kills, and Sydney Jaynes had two kills.
