Malcom “Mac” Heuss

Malcolm “Mac” Heuss, 89, of Edinburgh passed from this life at 5:30 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

The funeral will be conducted at Grace Lutheran Church, 3201 Central Avenue, Columbus, Indiana 47203, on Friday, September 22, 2017, at 11:00 AM.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home at 302 East Main Cross Street, Edinburgh, Indiana 46124.

Malcolm was born January 17, 1928, in Union City, Indiana. He was the son of Herman and Lucille Heuss. He married Janet Groves on September 16, 1951.

Malcolm was an Indiana State Police trooper and detective for 16 years. Later he was employed by Cummins Engine Co. in labor relations for 17 years. After retiring, he continued negotiating labor agreements for Cummins as a consultant.

He served on the Board of Directors of Lutheran Child and Family Services, the church council of St. George Lutheran Church, various committees of the Indiana-Kentucky Lutheran Synod, The Sheriff’s Merit Board of Johnson County, the Indiana Council on Crime and Delinquency, the Edinburgh Community School Board, and the Taylorsville Fire Department Board of Directors.

His surviving family includes his three daughters: Connie (Patrick) Powlen of Edinburgh, Susan Brown (Louis Sellers) of Elizabeth, Indiana, and Kelly (Steven) Lund of Plano, Texas; grandchildren Lauri (Rodney) Bray, Christi Branigin, Anna (Westin) Willard, and Jonathan Brown; step-grandchildren Brandy (Vince) Pollack, Kami (Matt) Ervin, Marcel (Izumi) Lund, Christopher (Amanda) Lund, and Angela (Scott) Barriger; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Other surviving members of his family are a brother, Allan (Helen) Heuss and a sister, Judith (Nile) Harper.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, by his parents, Herman and Lucille Heuss, and by his brother, Merrill Heuss.
