TRENTON, N.J. — A group affiliated with the Democratic Governors Association is out with its first ad in the race to succeed Republican Gov. Chris Christie.

DGA spokesman Jared Leopold said Thursday that Our New Jersey will begin airing the 30-second spot in Philadelphia broadcast and cable markets Friday.

He says the group is spending $1 million on the advertisement that takes aim at Democrat Phil Murphy’s top rival, GOP Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno.

The ad asks whether Guadagno is the change the state “really needs” after eight years of Christie’s administration. Christie’s job approval rating is historically low.

Guadagno’s campaign spokesman Ricky Diaz says Democrats are “clearly worried.”

The Republican Governors Association released its first ad this week, attacking Murphy.

Murphy leads in polls ahead of the Nov. 7 election.
