MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — An upstate New York man has been convicted of killing his 7-week-old son.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (http://bit.ly/2xUWq3R) an Orange County jury convicted 27-year-old Michael Heil of Middletown of murder and manslaughter Thursday in the August 2016 death of his son, Zachary.

Relatives testified that Zachary was behaving normally before he was left alone with Heil. According to medical testimony, the infant was grabbed by the torso and slammed, shaken or thrown. He died after being taken off life support following surgery for bleeding and swelling in his brain.

Heil will face a minimum sentence of 15 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced on Nov. 16.
