PHOENIX — A woman and a toddler were critically injured Friday when a 29-year-old man lost control of his car while turning and struck them before also hitting a light pole.

The woman and 2-year-old girl had been walking in the area of 44th Street and Thomas Road.

The driver, who has not been identified, wasn’t injured but requested to go to the hospital. He had a valid learner’s permit and was not impaired.
