LOS ANGELES — Authorities say an off-duty Los Angeles police officer has died after a motorcycle crash.

Officer John Gasparyan was fatally injured Thursday night in Porter Ranch.

Police spokesman Josh Rubenstein told reporters the officer collided with a car that was making a U-turn at an intersection. The driver of the car remained at the scene and was cooperating with detectives.

Police said the 35-year-old officer died at a hospital.

The LAPD said on Twitter that Gasparyan was a “champion” who had dedicated himself to keeping the community safe.
