NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A lawsuit alleges that a teacher in Tennessee held a 4-year-old student in a locker on three occasions.
News outlets report a lawsuit filed Thursday on behalf of the kindergarten student at Neely’s Bend Elementary School seeks $300,000 from Metro Nashville Public Schools and $500,000 from the teacher in connection with the August incidents. The family represented by attorney Roland Mumford is suing for negligence, inflicting emotional distress, battery, assault, false imprisonment and other misconduct.
Metro Nashville police spokeswoman April Weatherly says a youth services detective is investigating. The state Department of Children’s Services is also investigating the allegation.
Metro Nashville Schools told The Tennessean the teacher is on “administrative leave.”
Schools public information officer Michelle Michaud says the school’s principal responded appropriately to a case of suspected child abuse.
