PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Rhode Island lawmakers will consider legislation that would prohibit the development of any land on Statehouse grounds unless approved by the General Assembly.
The state House of Representatives last week passed the bill. It now heads to the Senate.
The legislation comes after a proposal to construct a combined bus hub and business development on Statehouse land that would be connected with the Providence Train Station.
Rep. Joseph Solomon, a Warwick Democrat who introduced the bill, says the land is “over 100 years of history” and should never be “bought and sold.”
