POINT PLEASANT BEACH, N.J. — Authorities say a New Jersey man has died after he was pulled out of the ocean unconscious while swimming.

Police in Point Pleasant Beach say they received a call around 2 p.m. Sunday about a swimmer in distress off Jenkinson’s Beach.

Police pulled the 60-year-old man out of the water and he was given CPR on the beach. He was then taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

It wasn’t immediately known what caused the man’s death.

The National Weather Service had warned people to stay out of the ocean because of dangerous rip currents and large waves.
