CLARE, Iowa — A woman accused of killing a friend in Webster County has pleaded not guilty.

The attorney for 26-year-old Mackenzie Knigge, of Clare, entered the plea for her Monday in Webster County District Court. Knigge, who’d been captured in Indiana, remains in Webster County Jail, pending $1 million bail.

She and 25-year-old Phillip Williams, of Lafayette, Indiana, are charged with murder in the early August slaying of 26-year-old Jessica Gomez. Gomez’s body was found Aug. 12 in a field near Clare.

The Messenger reports that authorities say Williams will remain in Indiana to face charges there before being returned to Iowa for prosecution.
