PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Maryland State Police have arrested a man in a fatal shooting in the southern part of the state.

Troopers said in a news release that 33-year-old Donte Sumpter of Princess Anne was arrested this week. He is charged with first- and second-degree murder in the shooting of 31-year-old Arthur Terrell Alford of Salisbury.

Alford was found Sunday afternoon by emergency medical personnel after police received to a 911 call of a reported shooting in a residential community. Alford was later pronounced dead at local hospital.

Troopers say investigators recovered a long-barrel handgun they say is connected with the shooting.

Sumpter is awaiting a bail review. Online court records do not list a lawyer for him.
