WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police in a North Carolina city say six people were shot in four separate incidents within a 17-hour period.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports police say two of the four incidents were related. One of them involved a man shot in the head.

The latest incident happened Monday, when officers found 18-year-old Irvin Marcial Ruiz lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the chest. Police said Ruiz is hospitalized in critical but stable condition on Tuesday.

Investigators said Ruiz was a passenger in a car involved in a previous shooting.

Two other shootings occurred an hour apart late Sunday. In one of them, police said 20-year-old Cherokie DeMichael Williams was shot in the head at his home. Authorities say he is hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
