PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rhode Island National Guard has sent an aircrew and supplies to help with hurricane relief missions in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
A C-130J Super Hercules aircraft and aircrew from the Rhode Island Air National Guard’s 143d Airlift Wing left Savannah, Georgia, on Monday.
Hurricane Maria left millions of U.S. citizens without food, water and housing.
The Rhode Island National Guard says the aircrew transported pallets of water and ready-to-eat meals to the Virgin Islands on Monday and took Lester Holt, of NBC Nightly News, and his news team to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
They also flew several shuttle missions between the islands.
Col. Michael Comstock says he’s proud of the team and they’re ready for whatever is required.
