INDOT to close State Road 46 ramps to I-65

The Indiana Department of Transportation will close the State Road 46 ramps on to Interstate 65 on Thursday and Friday to inspect the bridge over the interstate.

INDOT crews and a contractor will inspect the bridge beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday and continue inspections at 9 a.m. Friday for an undetermined amount of time during the day, said Harry Maginity, spokesman for INDOT’s southeast district office.

In addition to the access ramps to I-65 being closed, southbound I-65 traffic seeking access to eastbound State Road 46 will be detoured off the interstate at U.S. 31 in Taylorsville. Northbound I-65 traffic wanting access to westbound State Road 46 will detour off the interstate at State Road 11, Maginity said.

Southbound I-65 traffic to westbound State Road 46 and northbound I-65 traffic to east State Road 46 will remain open. The inspections will be done in daylight hours and the ramps will reopen at night.

In addition to this detour, the Robert Stewart Bridge in downtown Columbus will be inspected Monday and Tuesday, with lane restrictions occurring beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

Eastbound State Road 46’s right lane will be closed on Monday for inspection, and the eastbound State Road 46 left lane will close on Tuesday for inspections, Maginity said.

Bad weather could delay the planned inspections.
