CONCORD, N.H. — A federal prison inmate in New Hampshire has pleaded guilty to assaulting another inmate with a box cutter.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says video surveillance at the prison in Berlin showed 40-year-old Audie Cruz-De Los Santos putting an object in a recycling container within the unit where the assault happened. Prison staff retrieved a blood-stained box cutter from the container right after the assault.

Court documents say Cruz-De Los Santos attacked the inmate from behind, slashing his neck. The inmate underwent surgery at a hospital and was released.

Cruz-De Los Santos, who pleaded guilty Tuesday, is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 18.
