JERSEY CITY, N.J. — A driver in New Jersey is in police custody after hitting and killing a woman and fleeing the scene — the second fatal hit-and-run in less than 24 hours.

Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill tells NJ.com (http://bit.ly/2hxJyJG) the woman was struck on Routes 1 and 9 around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver fled the scene but was stopped by police a short time later. No other details have been released.

The accident is causing some delays during the morning rush.

On Tuesday morning, a woman was killed when an SUV ran a stop sign in North Bergen. The driver fled and no arrests have been made.
