BENNINGTON, Vt. — Officials say improvement work at a Vermont airport is scheduled to start in March, with the airport hopefully reopening by June 1.

The work at the William H. Morse State Airport comes after the Federal Aviation Administration approved a $3.5 million grant last week through their airport improvement program.

John Likakis, representative of the nonprofit group that is overseeing the airport, tells the Bennington Banner ( ) they will do anything to make sure things go smoothly for the contractor.

Work includes a reconstruction of the runway to its base, new wiring and a control unit for the runway lighting system and the first phase of a parallel taxiway along the runway.

The state will pay for 10 percent of the project.
