GADSDEN, Ala. — A sheriff says an Alabama teenager is charged with murder in the shooting death of a man.

Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin tells The Gadsden Times that 19-year-old Ty Jordan Kirkland was arrested on Tuesday in the killing of 42-year-old Kevin Charles Jones.

Kirkland is accused of shooting Jones after a verbal confrontation at Jones’ residence in Boaz. The victim’s wife called 911 to report the shooting, which occurred on Monday shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Jones died hours later at a Birmingham hospital. Multiple agencies had responded at the scene and assisted with the investigation.

Kirkland was being held on $100,000 cash bond.
