Angel Tree about to begin accepting applications

The Columbus Salvation Army will begin accepting applicants Monday for its annual Angel Tree outreach.

The program for families in need allows residents to purchase gifts for children up to age 15 by taking a gift tag from Christmas trees placed throughout the city.

In recent years, the program has highlighted record need, according to ministry leaders.

Application hours will be 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays through Oct. 13 at The Salvation Army headquarters, 2525 Illinois Ave., said Nancy Johnson, The Salvation Army’s administrative assistant.

Applicants must bring copies of all bills and expenses, including rent or mortgage, utilities, phone and groceries, as well as provide proof of annual income, she said.
