City signs interlocal agreement for railroad overpass project

The city of Columbus has signed an interlocal agreement with Bartholomew County for the State Road 46/State Road 11 overpass project.

The Columbus Board of Works on Tuesday agreed to sign the agreement that indicates Bartholomew County Commissioners will provide $2 million toward the project. The $30 million overpass project is between the city and the Indiana Department of Transportation, which has agreed to pick up half of the total cost.

Under the terms of the agreement, Bartholomew County will pay $1.5 million to the city by Nov. 15, while the remaining $500,000 will be split over a two-year period beginning in 2018.

Other than the funds provided by Bartholomew County, the city’s share will also include $4 million from Central TIF District funds, while other funding sources includes about $5.5 million from the Cummins Engine Plant TIF District funds, up to $2.5 million in state or federal highway programs along with cost savings and $1.5 million from CSX and Louisville & Indiana Railroads.
