BEND, Ore. — An Oregon man has won a $2 million prize playing Powerball after choosing the option to multiply his winnings.
The Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/2xN0Fxi ) James McGinnis opted to play the extra $1 Power Play option that multiplies players’ winnings. His $1 million dollar prize doubled as a result and he walked away with a $2 million prize for the Sept. 16 drawing.
McGinnis purchased the winning ticket at Binky’s Full Lottery in Bend. Binky’s will also be receiving $20,000 as part of a one-percent sales bonus.
Lottery spokesman Patrick Johnson says since the Oregon Lottery began selling tickets in 1985, it has earned more than $11 billion to be used for public education, state parks and watershed enhancements.
