LUNENBURG, Mass. — Police investigating reports of a suspicious man near a home in Massachusetts have shot and injured a suspect authorities say pulled a gun from a backpack and opened fire on officers.

A spokesman for Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. say the suspect, 31-year-old Brian Binder, was shot in the hand at about 12:30 a.m. Friday in Lunenburg. He was treated at the hospital and faces arraignment later Friday.

No officers were injured.

After the exchange of gunfire, Binder fled into the woods and at some point dropped the gun before he was apprehended.

He faces charges including two counts of attempted murder and carrying a firearm without a license. It was not clear if he had a lawyer.
