LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas police say the officer who opened fire during a fatal confrontation with a suicidal man shot the man in the shoulder.

Police say the man also shot himself in the head during the Thursday morning police shooting.

The Clark County coroner’s office says the man’s identity and cause of death are still pending.

Police say the man’s spouse called 911 to report that he left home with a gun and making suicidal statements.

He tried to evade officers when he was located by driving erratically and striking another vehicle and then ignored commands to drop his gun when he got out on foot.

Police say he then drew the gun to his head and fired one round, which happened at the same time the office fired a shot.
