TULSA, Okla. — Authorities in Tulsa say a man is dead following what police say was an attempted robbery in a south Tulsa neighborhood.

The shooting occurred around noon Sunday as a family was preparing to leave their residence northeast of Woodland Hills Mall.

Tulsa homicide Sgt. Dave Walker says the family, including a woman and two children, was confronted by someone described as “young” who attempted to force them back inside during a robbery attempt.

Walker says the suspect reportedly shot the father, who was in his 30s, during the confrontation. Authorities say the suspect then fled the area on foot.

A search is underway for the suspect, who officials say was wearing some kind of hood. The name of the victim was not immediately available.

The fatal shooting is under investigation.
