LOS ANGELES — A 65-year-old man has been charged with killing a pregnant woman whose nude body was found on a Southern California beach in 1980.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell announced last week that Robert Yniguez was arrested Sept. 28 outside his home.

Officials say Yniguez’s DNA was linked in 2013 to evidence that had been collected at the crime scene.

Twenty-year-old Teresa Broudreaux, a newlywed, was found dead in March 1980 along the shoreline in Palos Verdes Estates.

The district attorney’s office says Yniguez was charged Monday with one count of murder with the special circumstance allegation of murder during the commission of a rape — making him eligible for the death penalty.

Arraignment is scheduled for later Monday. It wasn’t immediately known if Yniguez has an attorney.
