LEXINGTON, S.C. — A “suspicious item” that prompted a brief evacuation of a South Carolina high school turned out to be a power pack for an insulin pump, officials said Monday.
Officers with the Town of Lexington cleared out River Bluff High School after someone reported seeing in an item that they considered to be suspicious, local media outlets reported.
Authorities said that they determined the item, which was in a trash can near the school, was a power pack for an insulin pump and posed no threat. Police posted a photo of the matchbook-sized item on their official Twitter account.
Students were allowed to return to the school later Monday, about 20 minutes after police first posted news of the evacuation on Twitter.
River Bluff opened in 2013 and has about 1,900 students. It’s the newest high school in the Lexington School District One.
