Brown County advances

MONROVIA — Brown County overcame a 2-0 second-half deficit to rally for a 3-2 overtime win against Beech Grove on Monday in the opening round of the Monrovia Sectional.

Landon Cambridge scored off a Logan Fittz corner kick, and Ben Rygiel added a goal to tie the match at 2-2. Then, Will Ryan connected off a Fittz corner kick with seven seconds left in the first of two seven-minute overtime halves.

The Eagles (11-4-1) outshot the Hornets 49-7. Chris Ratzburg sustained a concussion in the first half and was replaced by Jake Huddleston, who recorded two saves.

Brown County will play host Monrovia in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The sectional final is at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Trinity tops South Decatur

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran won the battle of the Cougars, beating South Decatur 25-5, 25-7, 25-7.

Hannah Sabotin led Trinity (16-11) with 11 kills and six aces. Abby Hackman and Chloe Criswell each pounded four kills, and Ashley Goecker and Sami Newmister each served two aces.

Zoey Nobbe pounded three kills, Taylor Best recorded five assists, Karah Biddinger notched 16 digs and Brianna Collins served an ace for South Decatur (6-24). Best added 15 digs.

Hornets sweep Crusdaers

MEDORA — Playing its first match in nine days, Columbus Christian dropped a 25-10, 25-14, 25-20 decision at Medora.

Savannah Herron led the Crusders (15-5) with five assists, four digs, four aces and a block. Mayah Schundelmeier recorded five kills, two blocks, two aces

Michaela Schundelemeir notched four digs and a block. Morgan Hunnicutt added three kills and five digs, Hannah Stair had four digs and Lauren Hunnicutt tallied three kills and a block.

Lancers fall in four

BEECH GROVE — Edinburgh won the first set, but Beech Grove rallied for an 18-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-13 victory.

The Lancers fell to 8-19.
