Donald L. Everroad

Donald L. Everroad, 88, of Columbus, died at 10:01 a.m. Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Don retired from the Indiana State Highway Department in 1991. He was a reserve deputy sheriff with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department for 26 years.

Mr. Everroad is a past president of the town board in Hope and also served on the volunteer fire department. He is a lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge No. 741 and a member of the Moose Lodge No. 398 for 49 years.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Rev. Hershel Axsom officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. A Moose Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Don was born April 20, 1929 in Hope, to the late Roy and Mary Linn Everroad.

He married Phyllis Nicholas on May 25, 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; children, Candice (Bruce) Gordon of Columbus, Ron (Pam) Everroad of Oakland, AR., Rick (Jody) Everroad, Darla Fields, both of Hope, Frank (Tammy) Nicholas, Lee (Melinda) Nicholas, both of Columbus; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline (Gary) McBride of Columbus; brother-in-law, Jim Greathouse of Mississippi, sister-in-law, Arlene (George) Guthrie of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur, Charles, Robert, Maurice, James and Joseph Everrroad.
