WINDSOR, N.C. — An autopsy report determined that a North Carolina woman whose body was found with her husband inside their burned home died of a gunshot wound to the head.

WITN in Washington reported that an autopsy on 60-year-old LuAnn Ambrose said her body was found in a bedroom of the home, while the body of 58-year-old Kenneth Ambrose was found near the front door of the home with a handgun nearby.

Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said in April that foul play was not suspected in the deaths of the husband and wife. Their bodies were found in the rubble of their home near Aulander.

The autopsy for Kenneth Ambrose has not yet been released by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
